What’s Your Creative Forecast? Take the Writing Seasons Quiz
Discover the season you’re in—Craft, Tending, Musing or Rest—and use strategy and intuition to guide your writing journey
Note: I’ve expanded the Writing Seasons Quiz to include more advanced outcomes.
For about a year now, I’ve had a version of these four expanded seasons workshopping in my brain and through my 1:1 client work. While I originally launched the basic quiz, I didn’t expect how quickly there would be demand for more advanced insights (and the ability to get a copy of the results, which you can get now, too!).
Based on what I’ve observed and developed with writers at various stages, I’ve now added four new evolved seasons: Mastering Craft, Sustainable Rest, Innovative Musing and Strategic Tending. These new seasons are designed to reflect the growth that comes from intentionally shaping your writing, whether through newsletters, creative projects or entrepreneurial efforts.
As writers, we’re often navigating between two opposing forces—our deep creative instincts and the reality of paying the bills.
Whether you identify as a DIY writer, immersed in the craft for the love of it or as a creative entrepreneur with a focus on making your writing a viable business, both approaches require one key element: clarity.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared various tools to help you think strategically about your newsletter, from applying e-commerce principles to understanding the difference between DIY writers and creative entrepreneurs. These tools help you balance creativity with practical newsletter growth, whether you're trying to attract readers or create a consistent income stream.
Today, I want to introduce a tool that helps bring clarity to your creative process itself
If you’ve ever felt the push-and-pull between different phases of your writing—wanting to dive deep into new ideas but feeling pressure to tend to what’s already out there or struggling to rest even though you know you need it—then my Writing Seasons Quiz is for you. This tool is designed to help you recognize which creative phase—Craft, Tending, Musing or Rest—you’re currently in.
Each season comes with its own rhythms and needs, and if you're in one but pushing yourself to operate in another, you can easily feel stuck. Knowing where you are can help you lean into your natural creative energy instead of fighting it. Whether you’re a DIY writer focused on your craft or a creative entrepreneur managing a business, understanding your season is essential for making the right choices in your writing journey.
What to expect from the quiz
When you take the quiz, you’ll get personalized insights into your current writing season. It’s quick and reflective, designed to give you clarity without forcing an outcome. There are no strings attached—unlike many online quizzes, you don’t need to provide your email to get the results. And, not every result will direct you to my newsletter. Instead, depending on your season, I’ll also point you toward other trusted resources and creators I admire—because often the best guidance comes from diverse perspectives.
That said, if you do want extra resources and more personalized guidance from me, you’ll have the option to opt in and hear more.
Where are you in your writing season?
Understanding your current season gives you the freedom to honor where you are creatively.
It’s easy to think the most productive season is always “Craft,” where you're building something new, but every season—whether Tending, Musing or Rest—plays an important role. Each one feeds the next and by knowing your season, you can align your writing decisions with your creative energy.
Like the e-commerce principles we discussed earlier, where timing and presentation are key, knowing which season you're in helps you decide how to approach your writing work and release it into the world. This clarity allows you to make strategic decisions that match your current needs and instincts.
So, take a moment to check in with yourself.
Where do you see yourself right now—Craft, Tending, Musing or Rest? The Writing Seasons Quiz might just give you the clarity you’ve been looking for, helping you align your next steps with your true creative energy.
I’d love to hear where you land on your creative journey! Every season brings its own unique insights, and I’m excited to see what you discover. Feel free to share your results with us all below when you’re ready—I’ll be highlighting some of your reflections to inspire and uplift our community.

This is so fun! I got that I was in a season of Musings and my newsletter is called Musings!
I liked the quiz, but agree some of the options didn’t apply - like the one about creating a newsletter didn’t have an option for those of us who already have one. That said I got Craft! I liked the reminder to allow myself to play with my writing. I literally thought to myself, “Now, that’s a novel thought.” 😂 About 30 mins before reading this newsletter a thought popped into my head as clear as day - spend 2025 traveling and writing. It sounds amazing and indulgent and omg could I really do that?! Anyways all of this is giving me a lot to think about this Monday morning.
