Nourish Your Soul, Find Your Calm
Evening practices for reflection, balance and vagus nerve stimulation
This evening’s Green Prescription is a gift of calm and reflection—an offering for Substack writers and parents who give so much of themselves every day. In partnership with the brilliant Dr. Mariana Calleja Ross (she goes by Dr. Mariana!), this final part of the series is meant to nurture your soul and bring balance to your busy life.
Dr. Mariana, whose Green Prescription Club dives deeper into these practices each month, has generously shared this exercise as a way to help you reconnect with yourself after a long day. Whether through breathing exercises, meditation or simply a moment of stillness, this prescription is designed to help you find peace amid the chaos. It even has a surprising suggestion with the science to back it up!
It’s a moment of calm, a way to end your day on a reflective note, and it’s my gift to especially to my paid members, with Dr. Mariana’s guidance, for all the amazing work you do. Look for gift from Dr. Mariana (She calls it “Editing Spectrum Love”) at the end of this piece.
A Green Prescription For the Soul
The soul is an essential part of wellbeing. Mind has its own rhythm, as does the body. In Western medicine, the soul is not a regarded topic. However, we know from Eastern ancient medical practices that the soul is an integral part of who we are. The soul is difficult to explain but we all know it, feel it, sense it. The sense of calmness that we can reach is part of such soul feeling and connection. If you’re looking for your greatest ally in your well being journey, start becoming aware of this unique part of who you are. As writers and creative entrepreneurs, in order to keep serving the people we want to reach, finding our own unique soul connections and rhythms is so important.
The soul is impacted by all the work we put into our mind and bodies, and there are activities we can do to reach a deeper level of relaxation and awareness, which is held in the soul. Ancient wisdom often prioritizes certain sound frequencies, or even practices like meditation. This evening, I invite you to work with Curiosity.
These deeper layers of yourself—also known as the autonomic nervous system—are best approached by stimulating a sense of curiosity through calming activities. Our soul work this evening will make us bridge the subconscious and conscious levels of work we have done today.
